EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Agriculture, according to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is the only enterprise that is sure to remain relevant in centuries to come. Technological advancement in the world over has always been to make life easier for people but it has also enhanced the rate of unemployment in the world, however, the agricultural sector is one that will always require the presence of people to fill the supply-demand gap in the production and distribution value chain.
In Nigeria, farming businesses are constantly being flawed by so many issues that have affected the growth of the sector all over the world such as land tenure laws (shrinking in net cultivable area), unavailability of funds and inputs, low farm income, increasing cost of production, etc. Food security, livelihood security, water security as well as natural resources conservation and environment protection have emerged as major issued of concern worldwide. Nigeria is not left out of these issues as she still has to contend with the dual burden of climate change and globalization. And as developing countries around the world are using sustainable agricultural practices to promote sustainable development, integrated farming systems comes in handy as nothing is wasted in the system and also as the by-product of one system becomes the input for another.
MARY AGRO FARMS has ventured into the integrated farming project to create the needed value for both the promoter and the society in general. This farming project has to do with the raising of different livestock within the same vast land. This will include the establishment of a poultry section with a broiler and layer units. Then also, there will be a fish section and a piggery section within the same farm space. A staff quarters to accommodate the staff and an office section will also be in place
The establishment of this venture is driven by the need to contribute to the growing world food and clean environment requirement all over the world. With the seasonal and technological setbacks inherent in the production of food and the daily demand for food all over the world with an estimation of 80 to 100 million new people to be fed annually, the global demand and supply gap for food is still far from being filled. In the southern part of Nigeria, there is a handful of large-scale farmers who are into integrated farming among them are Songhai Integrated Farm, Sunchi Integrated Farm, Jovana Integrated Farms etc., working towards the filling of this demand-supply gap, however, the demand for food is still on the rise partly due to increasing population.
Our proposed venture is geared towards filling the gap in this value chain through its product which will include Poultry meat and egg, Pig (Pork meat), and fish. The venture will employ the best practices that will promote the values of climate change, reduce wastage and cost of production and as well as promote the overall gains accruable to farming practices.
